VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 80s

I've been enjoying the show and singing along. LOL!! Here's the list, yo. With some commentary and video links where I could find 'em! *ahem* and warning... what's behind the cut is long :

1. "Livin’ on a Prayer" - Bon Jovi
No denying this one was everywhere. Sing along now! "She says we've got to hold on to what we've got 'cause it doesn't make a difference if we make it or not. We've got each other and thats a lot for love - we'll give it a shot..." Hmmm... number one though? Interesting. Video (amazing live acoustic version)

2. "Pour Some Sugar On Me" - Def Leppard
Okay, I do like this one though I am surprised to see it so high on the list for some reason. "Listen! red light, yellow light, green light go! Crazy little woman in a one man show. Mirrorqueen, mannequin, rhythm of love. Sweet dream, saccharine, loosen up..." Video

3. "Hungry Like The Wolf" - Duran Duran
Ever since reading the book "Small Sacrifices" and seeing the movie made from it, I get chills hearing this song. Go read the book / see the movie sometime and you'll see why. Video

4. "Billie Jean" - Michael Jackson
These were the days when Michael was riding high on his Thriller success and everything he touched with that silver gloved hand of his turned to gold. My friends and I used to mimic this entire video down to the "moonwalk". Video

5. "When Doves Cry" - Prince
Just a fine, fine song. I got into Prince with "Purple Rain", it was the first album of his I ever owned. He's brilliant. Video

6. "I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)" - Daryl Hall & John Oates
I was never this huge huge fan of theirs but liked a couple of their songs. This was one of them. Just like the groove running through it, and I like to sing along with the "I can't go for that no naaaaaoooohhh... no can do!" Video

7. "Sweet Child O’ Mine " - Guns N' Roses
LOVE. Just yeah. Video

8. "Like A Virgin" - Madonna
I remember when Madonna first hit really big. Everywhere you went, there were girls trying to emulate her style. You'd see the gazillion rubber bracelets, lace gloves, sunglasses. We called them "Madonnabes" (after "wannabes"). Madonna had attitude and came on like gangbusters. No escaping her. Video of her famous MTV Awards performance, from 1984.

9. "Walk This Way" - Run-D.M.C.
I thought this brilliant. Just the video alone is iconic... and it brought Aerosmith back strong as ever. Video

10. "You Shook Me All Night Long" - AC/DC
My brother used to listen to a lot of AC/DC. Got me into a little bit of their stuff. Just great, balls to the wall rock. Video

11. "Don’t Stop Believin'" - Journey
I thought Steve Perry had a GREAT voice. This one brings back memories of being in choir in High School. This was a sing along we always did. Video (live in Tokyo)

12. "How Will I Know" - Whitney Houston
So high on the list? Hmmm... I like a couple of others better, but okay. Whitney seemed to be on top of the world at this point and nothing could stop her. I'm waiting to see if now that she dumped Bobby and supposedly got clean, she'll have this triumphant comeback. Stay tuned. Video

13. "With Or Without You" - U2
I remember getting a cassette tape of The Joshua Tree and thinking it the most brilliant thing. I adore that album, and this is one of my favorite tracks by U2. Ever. Should have been a titch higher IMHO. Over Whitney's anyway. Video

14. "Walk Like An Egyptian" - The Bangles
LOVED The Bangles. This is a trifle of a piece really, but fun. I remember seeing them live when they opened for George Michael on his "Faith" tour. I had been looking forward to seeing them, and we were late getting to the venue. Got there just as they started in on this song and everyone was up and "walking like Egyptians". So much fun. Video

15. "Jump" - Van Halen
Ah the days of that preening, sexy "Diamond Dave". Yeah, baby. Video

16. "Need You Tonight" - INXS
I got into INXS through this album, "Kick". Remember well the video for this one, and yes, Michael Hutchence was indeed quite hot. He was amazing. Video

17. "Here I Go Again" - Whitesnake
Okay, okay, who can forget Tawny Kitaen's car dancing? This song is good too... I sing along when it comes on. Video

18. "Come On Eileen" - Dexy's Midnight Runners
"Toora loora toora loo rye ay..." This one makes me smile. It does. Video

19. "Time After Time" - Cyndi Lauper
My favorite Cyndi track. She sounds awesome on this. Video

20. "Jessie’s Girl" - Rick Springfield
"And she's watchin' him with those eyes. And she's lovin' him with that body, I just know it. And he's holdin' her in his arms late late at night..." I had a friend who was SO big on Rick at the time... this song always reminds me of her. LOL! Video

21. "Beat It" - Michael Jackson
Michael still on his Thriller streak... who can forget the video? Video

22. "Just Like Heaven" - The Cure
I liked a few Cure songs... this was one I liked quite a bit. Video

23. "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" - Cyndi Lauper
The video just made this song, IMO. Great stuff to sing along with your girlfriends on a night out. LOL!! Video

24. "Take On Me" - a-ha
Another one where the video just made the song, it was so innovative. Video

25. "Our Lips Are Sealed" - The Go-Go's
LOVED these girls! They kicked major boo-tay. Video

26. "Welcome To The Jungle" - Guns N' Roses
The first single release off Appetite for Destruction. GnR came along and blew everyone away. "You know where you are?! You're in the JUNGLE, baby, you're gonna DIE!" Video

27. "Too Shy" - Kajagoogoo
I just like saying the name of the band. LOL! Video

28. "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" - Wham!
Okay, okay, I was so smitten with George Michael. He of the blond streaks, white smile and insta-tan! Watching this video now, well... um... it's obvious. *wink* But back then? Oblivious. Just NOT possible. NO. LOL LOL LOL!! Video

29. "Burning Down The House " - Talking Heads
This is one of my favorite tracks of theirs. And one of their most popular. Loved the video. Video

30. "Love Is A Battlefield" - Pat Benatar
We are young. Heartache to heartache we stand! Okay, LOVED this. Pat rocked. She got a Grammy for this song as well. Video

31. "Under Pressure" - Queen & David Bowie
Queen and David Bowie together. Awesome stuff. Just ignore the ignorant comments if you click through to watch the video link. Stupid idiots. Video (Live Aid performance, minus Bowie)

32. "Sister Christian" - Night Ranger
You're motorin'... what's your price for flight? Yeah. Video

33. "Tainted Love" - Soft Cell
Hell yeah! Sing along time. Yep. Video (performance from Top of the Pops 2)

34. "Every Rose Has It’s Thorn" - Poison
This is just a great power ballad. Loved Poison. Video

35. "In The Air Tonight" - Phil Collins
This one has a creepy vibe that the video just adds to. It's excellent. Video

36. "867-5309 / Jenny" - Tommy Tutone
OMG this song was EVERYWHERE. And so was that damn phone number. On. Every. Bathroom. Wall. For a good time call... Video

37. "Janie’s Got A Gun" - Aerosmith
This song was quite popular despite it's dark theme and the video just adds to the bleakness. It's quite well done. Video

38. "Pride (In the Name Of Love)" - U2
Another amazing U2 track. Enough said. Video

39. "I Melt With You" - Modern English
Forget the Burger King commercial. Also try out Nouvelle Vague's version sometime. Yay for New Wave! Video

40. "Love Shack" - The B-52's
TIN! ROOF! Rusted. Just love love love this one. So much fun. Gah. Shoulda been higher on the list. LOL! Watch for RuPaul in the video! Video

41. "Dr. Feelgood" - Motley Crüe
Not the hugest fan of the Crüe, but I do like a couple things. And this one is good for sure. Video

42. "London Calling" - The Clash
Yes. Excellent. Get yer punk on. Video

43. "Look Of Love" - ABC
This one is great. I remember hearing this one all the time. Still gets played a lot on 80s stations on the radio. Great video! LOL!! Video

44. "Cruel Summer" - Bananarama
I LOVED this one... and it's always on my summer mix. Video

45. "Nasty" - Janet Jackson
No, my first name ain't baby. It's Janet. Miss Jackson if you're nasty. *nods* Video

46. "Every Breath You Take" - The Police
Yeah, I talked about this before. Stalkery. Creepy. *nods* Here's the video again.

47. "We’re Not Gonna Take It" - Twisted Sister
Too great. LOL!!! I linked the video for this one before too. Here it is again.

48. "Born In The U.S.A." - Bruce Springsteen
So many people misinterpret this one. It's not a flag waving, patriotic, YAY FOR THE USA song. Not ANTI America, but still not chest beating patriotic. It's about the plight of Vietnam veterans upon returning home from the war... how awfully and shamefully we treated them. I had to laugh when Reagan adopted it as his campaign song. Video

49. "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!)" - Beastie Boys
HELL yeah. And the video is classic. Video

50. "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" - Eurythmics
LOVE the Eurythmics. Annie's voice is amazing. Video

51. "Round And Round" - Ratt
I remember this one. My brother liked Ratt and played this quite a bit. The guitar kicks ass! And LOL @ Milton Berle in the video! I *think* he's one of the band members' uncle hence his appearance? Video

52. "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)" - Dead Or Alive
Pete Burns has an incredibly operatic voice there!! Great song. On the VH1 countdown he mentioned how he will still perform the song because well... it's like required, expected really. Then adding that he hopes it will eventually just disappear. Sometimes yeah, a song gets bigger than the artist and just becomes this thing. Anyone seen Burns lately? HOLEE crud. LIPS anyone? Eeep! Mommy? Video. Yay! Pop Up Video version!!

53. "White Wedding" - Billy Idol
You just gotta love Billy Idol. I don't think he'll ever escape this one... it'll be requested every time. Hey little sister SHOTGUN! Video

54."Push It" - Salt-N-Pepa
Awesomeness. Ooo baby baby! Bay baby baby! Video

55. "I Ran (So Far Away)" - A Flock Of Seagulls
Poor A Flock of Seagulls. They'll NEVER get away from this one. Video

56. "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" - Bonnie Tyler
Okay she had a cool voice. But this song tends to annoy me. I don't know why. But it's typical theatrical Jim Steinman anyway. I swear I remember seeing her on "The Gong Show" back in the day. Anyone else remember that? Or am I dreaming it? Video

57. "Mickey" - Toni Basil
OMG this one is like "Hollaback Girl" in that it can get so uber annoying, but damn it it's fun to sing along with! You know you wanna... "Oh Mickey you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind HEY MICKEY!" Video

58. "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" - Culture Club
Now that's more like it. No 80s list or countdown is complete without at least something from Culture Club. This is a great one. The first song I think I'd ever heard by the band and I hadn't even seen them yet, only heard on the radio. Boy George has an awesome voice. Video

59. "Jack & Diane" - John Mellencamp
Little ditty 'bout Jack and Diane. Two American kids growin' up in the Heartland. LOVE this one, always have. John's near and dear to my heart as he's a fellow Hoosier and grew up not 20 minutes away from my town in Indiana. Love the handclaps! Video

60. "Bust A Move" - Young M.C.
Okay put this one on and get the party STARTED, man!!! Don't just stand there, bust a move. Video

61. "Mr. Roboto" - STYX
Just yes. It's KILROY! Sing along now! You know you wanna... "Domo arigato Mr. Roboto!" Video

62. "Take My Breath Away" - Berlin
Oh Top Gun, how I love thee. Video

63. "Whip It" - Devo
CRACK THAT WHIP! You have to see the video to appreciate this one. Video

64. "Straight Up" - Paula Abdul
Having Arsenio Hall in the video upped her coolness factor a trillionfold. You rule, Paula. Woman could DANCE!! Video

65. "I Want to Know What Love Is" - Foreigner
Oh God. The ultimate. You break up with your boyfriend / girlfriend, and you just drive. Drive while cranking this song and crying out the words at the top of your lungs. "I WANNA KNOW WHAT LOVE IS! I WANT YOU TO SHOW ME!!!" *sob, cry, sob* Yes. Video

66. "Just Can’t Get Enough" - Depeche Mode
The song that introduced me to Depeche Mode. I remember hearing this one all the time. Just the synthesizers on here!!! Video

67. "Keep On Loving You" - REO Speedwagon
Okay cheesy, but you KNOW you sing along to this one. Admit it, now. "I'm gonna keep on lovin' you 'cause it's the only thing I wanna do. I don't wanna sleep, I just wanna keep on lovin' you..." Video

68. "Fight The Power" - Public Enemy
"You gotta go for what you know. Make everybody see, in order to fight the powers that be. Lemme hear you say Fight the Power"Video

69. "It’s The End of the World As We Know It" -	R.E.M.
...and I feel fine. Video

70. "I Love Rock N’ Roll" - Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
My favoritest karaoke jam. Evar. I sing the hell out of this one. 'Tis great fun. I love rock 'n roll, so put another dime in the jukebox, baby! Video

71. "Super Freak" - Rick James
It's RICK JAMES, bitch! Video

72."One Thing Leads To Another" - The Fixx
"Do what they say, say what you mean. One thing leads to another. You told me something wrong, I know I listen too long. But then one thing leads to another..." Video

73. "99 Luftbaloons" - Nena
The German version of this song! It's so much better than the English "99 Red Balloons". Yep, a catchy little ditty about nuclear war! Video

74. "Faith" - George Michael
OMG. The perfectly groomed stubble. The bomber jacket. The tight jeans. That great butt! *drool, drool, drool* Yeah. Hi. :) Video

75. "Little Red Corvette" - Prince
My aunt Jan's favorite Prince song. Great stuff! But it's Prince, so yeah, of course it's brilliant. Video

76. "She Blinded Me With Science" - Thomas Dolby
She blinded me... WITH SCIENCE! Video

77. "Candy Girl" - New Edition
Yes, I sing along with this one. In an annoyingly high voice. So there. SO reminiscent of the Jackson Five at their 70s peak. Video

78. "Call Me" - Blondie
American Gigolo!!!! And might I add that Debbie Harry is hawt. HAWT. Video

79. "Don’t You Want Me?" - Human League
"You were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar when I met you. I picked you out I shook you up and turned you around. Turned you into someone new..."Video

80. "It Takes Two" - Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock
OLD SKOOL!!!!! Hadn't thought of this one in a bit. Wave yo hands in tha ayah like you don't cayah! Video

82. "Tempted" - Squeeze
God the love I have for this song. Paul Carrack on lead vocals. Just yeah. Video

83. "Kiss" - Prince
See they've given Prince the love on this list. And deservedly. This is a favorite track of mine. The "Dynasty" reference cracks me up but it's da bomb anyway. Think I'm gonna dance... Video

84. "All Night Long (All Night)" - Lionel Richie
Fiesta. Was Annabella only like 13 years old? There was some controversy if I recall. Video

87. "Rock Me Amadeus " - Falco
"He was the first punk ever to set foot on this earth. He was a genius from the day of his birth. He could play the piano like the ring of a bell. And ev'rybody screamed: Come on, rock me Amadeus." ♥ Gotta love Falco. Video

88. "Ain’t Nobody" - Rufus & Chaka Khan
Chaka. Just nothing more needs to be said. Great song. Video

89. "Brass In Pocket" - The Pretenders
I hear Chrissie Hynde doesn't even really like this one. But it's one that everybody knows. I happen to love it, myself. Video

90. "Wild Thing" - Tone-Loc
Oh man, Tone-Loc! I loved this one and "Funky Cold Medina". Just great stuff. :) Video (live version)

91. "Walking On Sunshine" - Katrina & The Waves
The epitome of happy songs. Sometimes it grates on me with it's happiness, but it's damn catchy and I must sing along much to my chagrin. Video

92. "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" - New Kids On The Block
It's the New Kids On The Block. As much as I don't want to I like this song. Damn my soft spot for boy bands! Hmmm... Jordan was something of a hottie wasn't he? Video

93. "Cars" - Gary Numan
I always thought this song was just hella cool. Video

94. "Start Me Up" - Rolling Stones
YAY for Mick and the guys! Just the best. Video

95. "Only In My Dreams" - Debbie Gibson
Excuse me, it's Deborah now. Anyway. I think she's got a great voice. See her performances on Broadway in Cabaret and Les Mis as proof. And this track, from her teen idol days, though lite and poppy, is quite alright. Video

96. "Down Under" - Men At Work
He just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich. Video. Pop Up Video version!

97. "What I Like About You" - The Romantics
This one rocks. LOVE. Video

98. "My Prerogative" - Bobby Brown
Bobbay!!! Video

99. "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" - Wang Chung
Heh heh heh... you said Wang Chung. Heh heh heh. Video

100 "Working For The Weekend" - Loverboy
The ultimate 5pm on Friday song!! Video

There you have it.
Halloween playlist 2006

I'm getting antsy. September is rolling to a close (finally... four days left) and my favorite month of the whole year is upon us once again! October! Time for Halloween Month Movie A Night, and I now have my Halloween '06 Playlist in progress for the ol' iPod.

I've been using the same playlist (see it here) the past two years and will probably still have it out as well. But this year, something different struck me. Horror movies! Great horror movie themes, with snippets of great dialogue in between! So get your "Freaks" on and get a look at a sneak peek of my Horror Movie Halloweenapalooza. In progress. Haha!

Here we go!! Oh you're gonna love this one, it's a scream, baby!

The Shining
"redRUM!"
The Shining Theme
Psycho
"A boy's best friend is his mother..."
Psycho Theme
The Silence of the Lambs
"A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti. *hiss*"
The Silence Of The Lambs (Main Theme)
**BONUS Silence of the Lambs content**
"Put the fucking lotion in the basket!"
Goodbye Horses - Q Lazzarus (song that is playing as Jame Gumb dances in front of the mirror)
The Exorcist
"The power of Christ compels you!"
Tubular Bells - Mike Oldfield (The Exorcist Main Theme)
A Nightmare On Elm Street
"One, two, Freddie's coming for you..."
A Nightmare On Elm Street (Main Theme)
Scream
"You're gonna love this one, it's a scream, baby!"
Whisper To A Scream (Birds Fly) - Icicle Works (I believe the SoHo version was the one over the end credits of the film but this is cooler, it's the original.)
Halloween
"He is coming to your little town!" (not included yet)
Halloween (Main Theme)
Night of the Living Dead
"They're coming to get you, Barbara!" (not included yet)
Night of the Living Dead (End Theme)
The Sixth Sense
"I see dead people."
The Sixth Sense (Main Theme)

Any other suggestions? What would you like included? Want a copy when complete? Just comment.

Note! There are two sound bites I'm hunting for and don't have but want badly for this playlist. The Halloween movie one of Loomis... either this one or when he says "Hey, Lonnie! Get your ass away from there!" and the one from Night of the Living Dead where Barbara's brother taunts "They're coming to get you Barbara!". I've had no luck on Lime Wire or Bear Share. If you can help me in any way please comment! I could make them myself, but no longer have a microphone so can't create a .wav file of them.

Genesis is awesome.

Turn it on again...

I thought I'd treat myself since I feel pretty good about getting a brand new job, so I visited Amazon. I purchased the 3 CD set Genesis: Platinum Collection. I couldn't pass this one up for it is that cool.

I wasn't really keenly aware of the band, I'm afraid, till the Phil Collins led era, with their really catchy, mainstream stuff and great videos. I did know they'd had something of a cult following as a prog rock phenomenon in the 70s when led by Peter Gabriel. So loving Peter because of his earlier solo hits post Genesis, I thought I'd investigate. I dug up "Supper's Ready" which is really great in that pretentious, long, prog rock kinda way. Clocking in at a whopping 23 minutes, I think it's an incredible piece.

This set is something that I think anybody who enjoys Genesis, even if for just the 80s Phil Collins fronted hits, should own. It neatly ties up the best of everything the band has done since the beginning. A perfect career retrospective. I mean to give an example of just how crazy divided the "eras" were and the fan base each brought in, Phil says in the liner notes that there were fans that came to shows in the 80s that didn't even know he played drums. :)

I mean, everything is here that counts. Well, pretty much. CD 1 includes all that commercial 80s stuff, like No Son of Mine, Mama (which is crazy good, I love it) , Home By the Sea, That's All, and Land of Confusion. CD 2 includes the post Gabriel early Collins fronted transitional period, with songs like Misunderstanding, Turn It On Again, and A Trick of the Tail. CD 3 is all prog rock goodness, with stuff from The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, and the aforementioned Supper's Ready from Foxtrot among a few others.

The only little niggling I have is that the version of Tonight, Tonight, Tonight on here is edited. That one should have remained in tact, full length IMO, as it's a great song.

I will leave you with some downloadable Genesis goodness. Five songs. Enjoy it. And let me know what you think.

A Trick of the Tail
Afterglow
Supper's Ready
Jesus He Knows Me
Mama

Magic is fun. We're dead!

Original trailer for the film "Magic" (1978)

This one was just brought to my attention reading a board on IMDb and I had to comment on it... blog it.

Mom just a couple of weeks ago came home with the DVD and she and I sat down and watched it last Saturday night.

Mind you, I hadn't seen the movie in a few years. But the second you'd hear Fats say "We're gonna be a staaaaar." Well.... yeah. Creep out time. About that voice. It's indeed that of Anthony Hopkins. On the film, he worked in tandem with ventriloquist Dennis Alwood, who appears in an in depth interview on the extra "Fats and Friends" on the DVD release. Alwood trained Hopkins how to throw his voice and did most if not all of the manipulation of the dummy, where the voice was all Hopkins. Alwood worked Fats and did some of "the voice" on the DVD extra, but you could tell it wasn't the same voice. I've also heard Hopkins talk as Fats in an interview so yes... I know for certain it was him entirely.

I hadn't seen this particular trailer (TV spot) since I was, no joke, 12 going on 13 years old. I remember it SO well. I was staying the night (my parents were out of town for the weekend) at my grandmother's house on the lake (there's boooodies in Lake Meeeeeelody...) in Indiana, and it was the middle of the night. I believe just around or right after midnight.

My aunt and I were watching television and here comes ol' Fats reciting his little poem.

My aunt has had a fear and loathing of dolls since she was little. She was around 19 at the time I believe when this came out. She completely just blanched and freaked out. Me too. We didn't go to bed right away like we'd planned on doing when that commercial aired... ehm... needless to say. *whimper*

Actually this is my second viewing since the one I described above... this trailer is included in "Fats and Friends" at the very end. This ended up being pulled and another one used, as kids all over America were getting freaked and parents were calling in and saying you know what you're scaring my kid change the trailer! LOL!!!

Anyway, yeah. Nice to see you again, Fats old boy. *shudder*

Sierra Mist commercial

Cute commercial. I ♥ Michael Ian Black.

Although now it's taken on a more serious tone, hasn't it?

TSA has just announced that due to the recent foiled terrorism plot, no liquids are allowed to be carried on to flights. That's water, cola, coffee, shampoo, body wash... none of it.

While inconvenient, I can't say as I mind. I mean, if it's a thing between passenger and crew safety and a little inconvenience.

And really? I'm glad they're limiting carry ons. The overhead bins get overstuffed, people cram all kinds of things in their carry on bags, and it just takes up time while they huff and puff trying to make it fit, and then you have to wait while they drag it down from up there.

If we had everything packed and checked, and only carried on absolute necessesities anyway it would be MUCH better. That's how I travel anyway. I usually only ever have my purse with me on the plane, so it really doesn't affect me that badly I guess.

Free As A Bird

I love this video. There's so much to see and pick out! I thought I'd done pretty well until I saw this list, which is a pretty good chronology of song / rumor / Beatle-esque references found within the video. Realized there were a bunch I'd missed, some you really have to pay attention to catch.

Read the chronology here.

Click the picture to see the video.

Oh. And when the scene comes up with the car accident and the camera pans past the wrecked sports car ... (Paul Is Dead reference here) Paul's... *gulp* corpse is visible! Seriously, it's the smoke 'cause it's gone in an instant, but if you pause the video right there and look, well... "Paul" is slumped over in the car. Oooooooooo. Don't really think it's intentional, as I said, but yeah.

"My teenage angst bullshit now has a body count."

Previously I mentioned the buzz about a sequel to "Sixteen Candles". Well now there's buzz about a sequel to "Heathers", the 1989 black comedy starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. The film has achieved a cult following and status.

As seen in this week's Entertainment Weekly:

"According to Winona Ryder, she and Heathers scripter Daniel Waters--both at work on the dark comedy Sex and Death 101--are drumming up a sequel to the 1989 cult classic. 'I've been [arguing], 'There's Heathers in the real world!' she says. 'We have to keep going.'"

I think a sequel would be interesting and I'd love it, but it's been bandied about for at least the past ten years or so. Therefore I'll believe it when I see it.

As a morbid aside, regarding Kim Walker, who played Heather Chandler (Heather #1). One of Heather Chandler's quotes was "Did you eat a brain tumor for breakfast?". Sadly, Kim died of a brain tumor in 2001 at the age of 32.

Platinum.... weird?

Oh Dave Stewart, you clever boy. I *almost* fell for it.

After like the first couple of minutes of this special on VH1 (on as I write this) and seeing Mick Jagger pop up (gotta love the man he does deadpan so well LOL!) I smelled a Rutles type thing allllll over this one. At least in this case, the band is real, they just faked out the back story and placed them in the 70s.

Who Is Platinum Weird indeed.

And ROFL @ Paris Hilton ::insert vacuous look on her face:: "Who's Platinum Weird?"

This is actually kind of entertaining.

*snicker*

ETA:

You can watch the "mockumentary" as aired on VH1 here, via You Tube.

Platinum Weird Official

Everybody's gonna move their feet, everybody's gonna leave their seat

I saw this movie for the first time in a bit last week, and was reminded how fabulous the soundtrack is! Headed over to iTunes and was uber disappointed because they only have part of the album available. Then decided to go to Amazon and check it out. Mostly, also disappointing. Covers for quite a bit, which in and of themselves are not a bad thing, Marilyn Manson does a really good "Highway To Hell" for instance. But no. It missed the mark in so many ways.

I need the real deal. So headed to the reviews and comments...

Detroit Rock City The real soundtrack!

Thanks to a reviewer on Amazon here's the list, cut and pasted, of all the songs played in the movie, and by the original artists. Now I can get to work and fill in the gaps.

"Love Gun" by KISS
"Funk #49" by the James Gang
"Lights Out" by UFO
"Little Willy" by Sweet
"School Days" by the Runaways
"Jailbreak" by Thin Lizzy
"Shout It Out Loud" by KISS
"Frankenstein" by Edgar Winter Group
"The Boys Are Back In Town" by Thin Lizzy
"Rock & Roll All Nite" by KISS
"Iron Man" by Black Sabbath
"Problem Child" by ACDC
"Surrender" by Cheap Trick
"I Wanna Be Sedated" by the Ramones
"Highway to Hell" by ACDC
"Godzilla" by Blue Oyster Cult
"Fox On the Run" by Sweet
"Strutter" by KISS
"Blitzkrieg Bop" by the Ramones
"Calling Dr. Love" by KISS
"Come Sail Away" by Styx
"Whole Lotta Rosie" by ACDC
"Love Hurts" by Nazareth
"Running With the Devil" by Van Halen
"Detroit Rock City" by KISS

Excellent stuff, really. And the movie is really funny and entertaining whether you're a KISS fan or not. Go Netflix or Blockbuster the DVD sometime.

Done with my rambling. I have a couple of songs to get ripped to the iPod before heading out.

Is it happenin', hot stuff?

Okay until I heard Molly Ringwald hinting at it recently, I had lost hope for a "Sixteen Candles" sequel. Now I'm hearing she finally agrees on a script!

“I’ve turned it down for years. I couldn’t see how it would work,” she said. “Now, it seems right.”

As much as I adore Sixteen Candles, I'm strangely not as excited as I thought I'd be for a sequel. But since there appears to be one in the works for real, called "32 Candles", I have a couple of provisos:

John Hughes all the way. Otherwise, no.

Michael Schoeffling. Jake, that hottie. What's the point without seeing what happened with he and Sam?

Now that Molly has agreed, Anthony Michael Hall *must* be on board. I just have to see what happened to Farmer Ted! Dorks rule!!

And finally.... LONG. DUK. DONG. No Donger, no movie, bitchessss!

Okay, yeah. I'm ready to interface.

P.S.
Boo! What did I do with the Donger icon I had? ::pouts::

RIP Billy Preston 1946 - 2006

Will it go 'round in circles...

PHOENIX –" Billy Preston, the exuberant keyboardist who landed dream gigs with the Beatles and the Rolling Stones and enjoyed his own series of hit singles including “Outta Space” and “Nothing From Nothing,” died Tuesday at 59.

Preston's longtime manager, Joyce Moore, said Preston had been in a coma since November in a care facility and was taken to a Scottsdale hospital Saturday after his condition deteriorated.

“He had a very, very beautiful last few hours and a really beautiful passing,” Moore said by telephone from Germany.

Preston had battled chronic kidney failure, and he received a kidney transplant in 2002. But the kidney failed and he has been on dialysis ever since, Moore said earlier this year. "

I had no idea! So sad to hear. He really was an amazing keyboardist.

Will It Go 'Round In Circles - mp3

RIP Paul Gleason 1944-2006

Paul Gleason has passed away.

From People Online:
"Paul Gleason, a veteran of 60 movie roles including the detention-dispensing school principal in 1985's The Breakfast Club, died in a Burbank, Calif., hospital Saturday of mesothelioma, a rare form of lung cancer linked to asbestos, said his wife, Susan Gleason. He was 67."

This one took me by suprise, I had no idea he was so ill.

I can't think of him without thinking of Judd Nelson (John Bender) asking him if he knew Barry Manilow raided his wardrobe, and hearing him say "Don't mess with the bull, young man. You'll get the horns!" He was so tied to that role, actually, he parodied it in "Not Another Teen Movie!" by reprising a Vernon-esque principal, even citing the same dialogue as he did in Breakfast Club. RIP, Paul.

Beach morning.

Hope everyone's enjoying their Memorial Day Weekend so far. It's a gorgeous one here in South Florida. I actually spent all morning on the beach and it was loverly. Got my iPod and settled in for some people watching.

I wish I'd have taken my digital camera along, there are always interesting things and people to see. Saw a guy walk down the beach who could have been Truman Capote. I'm serious. The height, the walk, just his carriage, everything. I chuckled. He had on a straw hat and dark glasses, white cotton shirt and khaki hiking shorts. I swear if I'd heard him speak and he sounded like Truman I'd have just died. LOL!!

Many people with kids and etc. enjoying the afternoon.

Now it's the Indy 500, and we'll probably have fried chicken, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, and cole slaw for dinner in a bit.

The Brangelina offspring has arrived! And so has the Stefani-Rossdale bundle!

Probably most likely already heard this but yeah.

It's too bad that we won't see her for a bit. Perhaps they're holding out for the be$$t offer.
I kind of like the sound and flow of the name Shiloh Nouvel. Nice. Normal for celebrity standards.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- In what was arguably the most anticipated delivery in the world, Angelina Jolie gave birth to Brad Pitt's daughter Saturday in Africa, Pitt's publicist announced.

"The night of May 27, 2006 in Namibia, Africa, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt welcomed their daughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. No further information is being given," publicist Cindy Guagenti said in a statement. No photographs were being released, she added.

And in other news, arguably (and I think she happens to have been) the cutest pregnant woman ev-ar, Gwen Stefani, had her baby, a boy. King. Perhaps he'll go by James, who knows. Very nice regal sounding name actually. I love Gwen and Gavin. ♥

From MTV.com: The No Doubt singer delivered her baby at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Friday afternoon (May 26), according to her label representative. Stefani's rep issued a brief statement that read, "Both mother and child are doing well."

Stefani and her husband, rocker Gavin Rossdale, named the child Kingston James McGregor Rossdale; he weighed in at 7.5 pounds.

Congratulations all around to the new parents.

Oops, she did it again...

Once again the parenting skills of one Britney Jean Spears is under scrutiny.

1. Another car incident. This time, Britney was tooling around town in her Mini Cooper convertible with Sean in his car seat. Okay, fine, right? The thing is, she had him facing front. One should ALWAYS have a baby under a year old in a rear facing car seat. Another is that he looks to be improperly strapped in. I'm pretty sure if this had been witnessed by a policeman, he'd have cited her. If there was a collision goodness forbid, Sean could have possibly sustained permanent injuries and damage.

2. Just on the newswires today, she *almost* dropped him. It's been reported that she stumbled as she left the Ritz Carlton in New York yesterday, with a beverage in one hand in Sean in her other arm. She tripped up on her long pants, stooped low and steadied herself with the help of a quick thinking and close by bodyguard, Sean's little orange cap falling to the ground as his head fell back.

Damn, Britney. Just... I don't know what to think. And she's *pregnant* again?! Oh Lord.

Save Sean Preston!!
And I agree with them... to hell with a little cotton baseball cap... this child needs a crash helmet!
